If you are lucky enough to know Merle, then you know what a huge heart she has for those in need around her. She always puts others ahead of herself, and has made a difference in SO MANY lives.
Merle has been a foster mom to kids her whole life, and has fostered around THIRTY KIDS, and adopted four of them. She has been a phenomenal mom to so many, and always made sure they were the most important people in her life.
Merle is the first one to organize a clothing and food drive for the un-housed, not only collecting much needed items, but handing them out in person, and getting to know first hand the people who she was helping.
I met Merle when she began fostering for my dog rescue about four years ago. Since then, she’s taken in dozens of puppies and cared for them until they were old enough to be adopted.
She’s taken in a 13 year old senior who nobody else wanted, and gave her a permanent spot in her loving home.
She’s fostered countless adult dogs and shown them what it’s like to receive love, sometimes for the first time.
And she’s given a home to hospice cases who she knew were going to split her heart in two. But she did it anyway, and always with grace.
The time has come for Merle to receive some of the love, kindness, and support that she’s always given so freely to others.
Merle is about to begin her year long battle against cancer, a battle that we know in our hearts she will win.
But this fight is going to make it nearly impossible for her to work during this time. She’s a full time nanny, and having her immune system compromised is not something she can risk. So she will need to take this time off of work, or at the very least limit her work to what she’s ABLE to do.
Merle starts chemotherapy next week. She will then have a major surgery. And finish out this fight with radiation treatment.
Being the sole breadwinner in her home, she is going to need help to pay not only her mortgage and her bills, but her prescriptions, and her incredibly high co-pays as well.
Our goal is to alleviate some of the financial burden during this difficult time, so that she can focus all of her energy and attention towards beating this thing.
