Carl J Mascarenhas (CJ) has a serious disease called biliary atresia. Biliary atresia is a rare disease of the liver and bile ducts that occurs in infants. Symptoms of the disease appear or develop about two to eight weeks after birth. Cells within the liver produce liquid called bile. Bile helps to digest fat. This disease damaged his liver to the point that he needed a transplant at the age of only 6 months old. His entire life he has been unable to do a lot of things a normal kid could do, but he has never let that hold him back. As a young child he was involved with Karate, and from middle school until his senior year of high school he wrestled. Even today with the struggle he go through mentality and physically he enjoys training people in the art of Kickboxing and Mixed Martial arts. Being born with a chronic illness is something nobody should ever have to battle against. It not only takes a toll on your health but your mind as well.
