Hello, everyone.
I’ve created this fundraiser to assist my dad, who was a lifelong military service member and government contractor. My mom had a massive stroke just over three and a half years ago and my dad unexpectedly retired early to become her sole caretaker. My mom is mostly paralyzed and in the last few months has been in a care center, and is now in the hospital. As of now, she is preparing to receive hospice and we’re not sure how long she will be with us.
I know that military and community resources can be useful, but my dad has been so overwhelmed since the beginning of this whole ordeal. It took a long time to get anything done and there were many, many setbacks. He had a lot of doors slammed in his face or just never opened. Some things have also not been covered by insurance, including some very hefty co-pays— most recent ones dating from December to current day.
My dad is a hard-working, honest, teddy bear of a man. He has not only served his country, but everyone he’s ever known that he could help. He is one of the best men I know and I am awed by the love and compassion he has shown to my mom in her circumstances. Forget Disney fairy tales. My parents are the real deal! My mom is also an angel and I am so blessed to come from such wonderful examples of love and commitment.
As of now, my dad is struggling to pay some medical bills as he is on a fixed income and has had drastic unexpected expenses over the last few years. We don’t know how many more are on the horizon as well, since my mom is still in the hospital.
My dad does not know (yet) that I created this fundraiser. He would never ask for money and has almost never asked for help, period. But he needs help. Desperately. He has two older cars, one that is completely non-functioning and he’s already put a lot of money into trying to get it running. His other car is 22 years old and I’m pretty sure is being held together by duct tape and the grace of God! My dad is actually an excellent mechanic and this is why the car has lasted so long. This being said, the car is of the age that requires constant money just to function. It also has no air conditioning and has broken down multiple times in Denver traffic—not cool in so many ways.
If you are able to donate any money at all, my dad would be so grateful. We all would be so grateful.
The funds will directly go to:
—Medical bills & expenses
—Car maintenance & repair
—Potential funeral expenses when my mom passes away (expected very soon)
—Helping my dad move to Idaho shortly after the above happens (my husband and I live here and can help him with a place to live, etc.)
Something else I should mention is that my dad also has chronic diseases and pain, including arthritis, and numerous chronic issues from his prior military service. He had 2 back surgeries this year as OUTPATIENT surgery, with no anesthesia, so he wouldn’t miss any time with my mom. I can’t think of many people that would do that.
Thank you for reading this. I know it’s long. If I were in a better situation, I would do more for my dad. My husband and I are doing all we can at the moment. We were hit hard with Covid-related financial struggles and are just now on the upswing.
If you can’t donate anything, please please please share this fundraiser! If anyone in the Denver, CO or Boise, ID area knows of a place that might be willing to help a veteran with a car or a steeply discounted one, we would love to know about that as well. Thank you so very much for your time.
Below are some family photos from over the years. The most recent ones of my mom are from when she wasn’t so frail. I can’t bring myself to post any newer ones. I’d like everyone to remember her this way or better!
