Scott Berndt medical fund

Scott needs your support to help him through a bone marrow transplant (again).  The transplant is scheduled to start in August.  Scott will need to have an unrelated donor that has been found through BeTheMatch of MN.
As many of you have faithfully supported Scott throughout his first bone marrow transplant in 1989, he needs everyone's support again.  Throughout the years, Scott has had several medical issues.  His strong will and determination has always perservered and he's made it through every challenge.  In the last year, Scott's bone marrow has failed and his blood counts started to decline rapidly.  A recent marrow bisionsopsy showed that Scott's bone marrow is not producing enough blood cells.  He has had to undergo blood and platelet transfusion on a regular basis and needs a bone marrow transplant.  Scott and his sister had a perfect match for his initial transplant, but his marrow started to fail again.

Scott found out that his insurnace is "out of network" and he will be required to pay an additional $15,000 in order to undergo a transplant at the University of MN.  He needs this transplant to survive.  In addition to the out of network costs, there are also many other medical expenses that Scott will inquire; parking, medication co-pays, deductibles, and gas/mileage to transport him to/from the hospital.  Scott's main support person, his mom, Barb had a stroke in June, so her ability to support him is very limited because she too is working to gain her strength, balance and vision back.

Funds donated to this site will go toward Scott's medical expenses while he is going through transplant and the year following transplant where he will be required to have on-going medical appointments and follow-up.

Although Scott and his family are very thankful for all of your prayers and moral support, your financial support is really needed right now.  The emotional stress of having several major health problems is very draining on a family.  The stress of medical bills and insurance issues with covering an out of network hospital is frustrating.  Scott has to have the transplant at the University of MN in Minneapolis because this hospital knows his history and this is where he underwent the first bone marrow transplant.

Thank you for every bit of support that you can help Scott with during this touch time.  Our family is very thankful for everything.  Scott will have a Caring Bridge account once he starts transplant to keep everyone updated.
