Mikey's Cancer Treatment Fund

After not feeling well and being in pain and seeing multiple doctors over a several month period with no resolution my mother Michael Moneypenny finally ended up giving in and asked to go to the ER.  For those of you that know her you know how much pain she must have been in.  Once in the ER they performed a CT scan and MRI and the results showed that there was a mass on her ovary.  We immediately were scheduled for an appointment with an oncologist as well as a surgical oncologist to determine a course of action.

The doctors decided that surgery followed with chemo therapy was the best course of action.  The amount of pain that she was in was excruciating and very difficult to control with even the best pain killers.  Fortunately, they were able to get her surgery scheduled quickly.

She had surgery on Halloween morning and they performed a full hysterectomy, removed a small portion of her colon as well as removing a softball size mass that was thought to be causing most of her pain.  The surgery went well and the doctor was very confident that the prognosis would be very good and that she would be able to start chemo in a few weeks.  As is the case with cancer, you are never truly in the clear.

Post-surgery she was still having extreme back and rib pain.  The doctors ended up ordering another MRI of her back and found that she had a compression fracture that was being caused by the cancer having spread to her back.  Her spinal cord is in a very fragile state and without surgery will result in paralysis.  She will be going back into surgery this week to stabilize her spine and prevent the spinal cord from being damaged any further.  After surgery she will be taking part in pinpoint radiation on her spine to reduce or kill the remaining cancer cells.

We are very fortunate that we live close to them to be able to assist but all of my other sisters live in Alaska and can only afford to travel down here on a limited basis with work and their own families to take care of.  As most people that have experienced anything like this know, it takes a village.  Her only income is from social security / medicare and that just doesn’t cut it when it comes to treatment.  The pain meds alone are adding up quickly and after talking with her she agreed to let me start this Go-Fund-Me to help with some of the everyday expenses.  She told me that she didn’t really have many friends that used computers and that we wouldn’t raise much.  I told her that she has 4 kids, 16 grandkids, and multiple great-grandkids that have wonderful friends and family that are always willing to lend a helping hand.  Any donation that you can spare is greatly appreciated and will allow her to not worry about financial implication and focus solely on her treatment with the goal to recover enough to get back to the things she enjoys like fishing, camping, painting, and rearranging furniture...yes, rearranging furniture ;-).

With sincere love, appreciation, and thanks
