Mary Baker is an amazing mother, friend, wife, and person. She is my sister-in-law, but is really the biological sister I personally never had . She is the glue that holds her family's practical lives together.
Mary will turn 34 on Monday, 8/8/16; the same day she will undergo a lyphodenectomy for metasticised cervical cancer. She will also be starting a 6-7 week course of external radiation, brachytherapy (internal radiation), and chemotherapy within the next two weeks after her surgery. This is after already having had a cone biopsy and a full PET scan.
During this horrific ordeal, Mary and her husband, Dan, learned that the health insurance they have through Dan's work, which was advertised as a "normal" health insurance policy, provides benefits for "Preventative Services" only. Mary, therefore, has NO health insurance to pay for the plethora of expensive medical treatments she requires to save her life. They are unable to move to Marketplace insurance until the next open enrollment, which will be after her surgeries and treatments. To add insult to injury, they also cannot drop the worthless current insurance, and must continue to pay the approximately $450/month premium on an insurance that only covers preventative care.
On top of the emotional and physical toll the cancer has taken on Mary, she and her husband are now also burdened with extreme financial worry that they cannot afford the surgery and treatments she requires and the possibility that the various medical providers will not continue treatments. No one, especially a young mother, should have this concern while facing the many emotions that come with a cancer diagnosis and while summoning the strength and will to get through upcoming surgery and treatments.
Dan is the sole financial provider for the family of four, since Mary is in no physical condition to continue her home-staging business. As goes without saying, Dan's income is insuffiicent to pay out-of-pocket for Mary's necessary surgeries, chemotherapy, and radiation, even with financial hardship reductions in costs that the providers may allow.
PLEASE strongly consider donating to help Mary and her family pay her cancer-related medical bills. Every little bit will help Mary and her family make good faith payments toward the many medical bills they have and will continue to accrue throughout this long process.
Mary did not want anyone to create this page for her. However, this is an unfathomable position in which for anyone to find themselves. Our entire family will be most grateful for any donations they may receive. Thank you.
