For many years dogs were a part of life in the wilderness, providing transport, protection and companionship. Over the years, change happened and snow machines started doing the work. Many dogs now remain on First Nations communities. There's a struggle for people to find a better life to break the cycle of despair and poverty. Today, health, housing, education and even clean drinking water are priorities which leads to very little money left for the dogs and little access to veterinary care. This means not many spay/neuter clinics resulting in dogs breeding and multiplying. There are dogs everywhere in rural areas. The further out you go the higher population of dogs. Dogs are part of a very complex mix of needs for First Nations. There is no control in rural areas and no allocated funding from the government for veterinarians, care, catchers or even shelters. There's nothing. The option these communities are using is culling, shooting the dogs, killing them to destroy undesirable populations. This is not the solution to this huge problem. Until a solution is found, we can only try to help the ones that need us. Dogs are dying daily from starvation, dehydration, extreme weather conditions, sickness and so much more. We decided to step up.
On July 17, 2020, Rescue All Dogs will be heading to Manitoba from Montreal to rescue some of these innocent dogs on First Nations Reservations that desperately need our help because they simply don't have a chance at life. We have teamed up with K9 Advocates Manitoba to help us get these dogs. We would love to bring as many back as possible but this will all depend on how much funds we can raise. The most expensive expense for this mission is medical care. Veterinary bills can get very high and very quickly. If we can raise our goal we will be able to bring a full truckload back!
