On January 15th of 2026, I was driving my 4-year-old daughter to school with my 8-month-old daughter as a passenger. We were driving 40 in a 55 to stay within the snowy conditions of the road as well as what I had thought to be a safe speed. Then the unthinkable happened within a blink of an eye.
An uninsured, out-of-state driver came to a stop sign intersecting the road I was driving on. They were going too fast, couldn’t stop, just slid. They attempted to turn while hitting their brakes and ended up not only in my lane but directly head-on with my vehicle.
The moment the car stopped, after the airbags deployed and both of my daughters began crying, I jumped out of the car as fast as humanly possible. My 4-year-old and I were now on the ditch side of the same lane we were in. I pulled her out of her car seat with blood coming from her mouth and dropped her in the ditch after noticing her injuries were okay. I then ran to the other side of the car to pull my 8-month-old out next. The three of us sat in the snowy ditch hugging and crying until emergency services showed up. A gentleman who witnessed the accident comforted us and pulled blankets from the car to wrap around the kids. We sat in a volunteer firefighter's warm truck until my mother brought the three of us to the hospital where we were checked out.
The 8-month-old was luckily okay besides a bruise on her thighs from the car seat. The 4-year-old bit her tongue, had bruises/rashes on both of her shoulders from the car seats, and busted her chin. As for myself, I had a sore neck and back, and potentially fractured my wrist, which I am waiting on a second set of X-rays for. As I tried sleeping last night, I couldn’t stop replaying the accident over and over and tried to keep my composure as best as I could.
Now, with a totaled vehicle, a fiancé that has to stay home from work to help with the kids, 2 car seats that need to be replaced, and multiple expenses that will now be out of pocket due to the other uninsured driver who was at fault, I would like to please ask for any financial assistance to help. We recently went through a tough time financially, and we finally got back on our feet only to have to completely reset once again.
