Ryan's Rehab

So I’m going to try to balance giving you enough information about funding this without giving out so much that it would add to my son’s anxiety which is a large part of the trouble he is facing.

The funds you contribute will 100% pay the cost for our son Ryan to spend 8-12 weeks in a rehabilitation wilderness program.  To our complete shock we discovered today the uninsured cost of the program is an estimated $45,500!  In trying to put our shock aside, we had to get in touch with the strength of the referral of the program; the realization that the staff includes doctors, counselors, and other specialists; that our son pretty much brings the clothes on his back, and that this is a 24/7 program.  Without taking out a loan (ended up borrowing $10,000), and as we are looking into acquiring other funding, we have about $3,500 available now and so have set the goal of raising the remaining $42,000.   This goal continues to be reduced to reflect funding (now $19,655) received directly from donors outside of this funding outreach.

UPDATE: The rehab program is 100% funded!!!  The funds we have received in excess of the goal will reduce the cost of our trip out to visit Ryan.  We will interact in parts of the program, learn some things to help with his transition back home, and even have some time to do a little hiking.

Ryan has been through some other programs which include ASAP and the Lindner Center of Hope here in Cincinnati.  These are excellent programs that provided some help at the time.  We’ve considered many other options, but after an interview this evening it became clear, other than the cost, that this program is by far the best suited for Ryan.  And Ryan WANTS to recover… until now Ryan hasn’t been ready and willing to take this step.  And for this struggle that has lasted 5 years, it is remarkable that he actually WANTS to enter this program immediately.  He can go as soon as we can complete the paperwork and pay for the program cost.  Working in the most expedited fashion the program coordinator said it takes a minimum of 2-3 days to complete the paperwork.  Then it’s a matter of payment.

We are and have been praying about this and as much as we are determined to do anything to “make it happen”, we acknowledge that insufficient funding is a strong sign that this wasn’t meant to be.

Thank you as much as 4 parental tear-filled eyes can demonstrate for the love and consideration you give to this request.  And please know that your prayers are as much valued as a contribution.

Peace and love be with you!

Ed and Josi.

*Ryan is wearing sunglasses in the photo.  His sisters put the trip together for both our boys who hung out in a cabin and went hiking at Cumberland Falls last week (and yes, no parent types!).
