Hello everyone! My name is Kristy Billings. My sister Maria April Otey's sweet Yorkshire Terrier, Checotah, is in need of some financial assistance and many prayers so she can get the medical care she needs to live.
In April, her vet noticed a heart murmur and completed an echocardiogram. She recommended that she be seen by a cardiologist. The cardiologist said that she has mitral valve disease, but it was mild and she didn't need any medication, diet changes, or exercise restrictions.
She then went back to her vets office with a cough and the primary vet thought she had chronic bronchitis/COPD. A few medications were tried, but nothing helped. Instead, her symptoms kept getting worse each day.
This past weekend her breathing was very labored. My sister rushed Checotah to the Emergency Hospital where she was diagnosed with heart failure. She was put on oxygen right away and an IV was started to begin giving her medications to assist with her breathing. X-rays indicated that her heart was severely enlarged and they needed to give her diuretics to pull some of the fluid off of her heart.

Her heart was putting pressure on her trachea and her lungs were filling with fluid making it very hard for her to breathe. Checotah is now at home resting and on several medications to control her symptoms. Her activity is restricted and she is on a special cardiac diet. She will need frequent follow up visits with her primary vet as well as her cardiologist to ensure that she remains stable.
She has already incurred bills for over $4,000.00. Her ongoing medical treatment and medications will be very costly each month. Anything you are able to contribute to helping this sweet little girl live a comfortable life will be very greatly appreciated. If you know my sister, her dogs are her entire life. They are what keeps her going each day. There isn't a single thing she wouldn't do to make sure they have everything they need to have the best lives possible. In her own words she always says to me, "They are my oxygen!"
Thank you so much for your help and prayers!!!
Forever grateful,
Kristy xoxo
