Help Allie Stay in College

Hi, my name is Alizay (Allie) Starks. I am a rising junior at the University of Missouri-Columbia “Mizzou,” double majoring in Biological and Psychological Sciences with minors in Chemistry and Spanish with the plan of attending medical school to become a dermatologist. However, these dreams may be put on hold. Recently, my family and I have hit a financial crisis and are unable to pay my outstanding tuition bill of $8,000. This has created a hold on my student account keeping me from registering for classes in the Fall.
I have always prided myself on academic excellence. In high school, I graduated during my junior year and went to college when I was 16 years old with the hopes of completing medical school at a young age. Now that I have completed 2 years of college I have maintained a GPA of 3.768, made the Dean’s list every semester, and have been accepted into the Honors College.
Here are a few more of my accomplishments:
· For the past 2 years I have done undergraduate research in Dr. David Schulz’ neurological sciences lab where I quantify dopamine and serotonin receptors in leeches before and after injury.
· I volunteer in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at the University Hospital where I work with different health care professionals, preform post-mortem care, and experience direct patient contact through assisting with bed turns and basic hygiene: bath, teeth brushing, assisted feeding, etc.
· I was elected to be on the executive board for the Minority Association of Pre-Health Students for the upcoming fall semester.
· This past spring semester I partnered with the Academic Retention Services and the Honors College in order to build a new program named “The Undergraduate Success Program”. I helped build this program and served as the liaison between the directors of each division and undergraduate students. This included: marketing, constructing the workshops, the admission process, etc. I will be in charge of co-leading the program along side the directors as well as mentoring other undergraduate students.
· Most recently, I was selected to be a Biological Sciences Peer Advisor for the upcoming school year. This is an important position in the Arts & Sciences College and a highly competitive position.
· I was selected as a captain for Marching Mizzou’s Color Guard.
However, I will lose all of these positions and my current academic scholarships for 2016/2017 if I do not return as a student in the Fall. I am urgently asking you to please donate $100 or whatever amount you can to help me stay in school. I sincerely appreciate any help I receive and will continue to strive for academic excellence if given the chance.
