Written by Andrew Moss for his husband Jesus Retana
My name is Andrew Moss and my husband is DART Police Officer Jesus Retana who I call Jesse. Thursday July 7, 2016 started out just like any other day – Jesse and I woke up and watched the news and talked before he had to go to work. We ALWAYS say I LOVE YOU before we leave each other because since we both have been Police Officers at some point in our lives, we are familiar with others who have left “issues” open --- WE DON’T! When I found out about this attack I was unbelievably scared but calm – I have worked with Jesse before so I knew he would do his best to make it home but I knew he would put himself between the innocent and this monster to do his best to save as many others as possible---that’s just who he is.
Jesse was actually shot in the left tricep and is going to need surgery and will have a long road to recovery requiring physical therapy and many other medical services many not covered by Worker’s Compensation.
Jesse and all injured DART Police Officers have had a drastic 30% reduction in pay while they are unable to work because of Texas Worker’s Compensation. Unlike Dallas Police Department Officers who receive 100% of their pay while unable to work, DART Police Officers are NOT covered by Civil Service and as of today, DART has not made policy adjustments to eliminate this extreme hardship for good.
Please donate to help Jesse and our family and other Police families some with children during this extremely difficult time.
