Sams surgery recovery help
Donation protected
Hi everyone, my name is Sam. I am in need of some intense life changing physical therapy to get back to everyday things like walking with no pain and no limp and playing with my nephews. The picture is of me at physical therapy on a zero gravity treadmill. Walking on that has helped relearn how to walk be more comfortable and safe.
In 2018 I found out I had some knee problems that required surgery. I have an osteochondral allograft transplantation system (OATS) in 2019, which is where donor cartilage and part of the femur was used to replace my my own.
I found out early in 2021 that this transplant failed and that I would need to do it again.
I was able to find the best surgeon and had one minor corrective surgery followed by another OATS a couple months later. I am 14 weeks post-transplant and am very lucky that this one seems to be successful- I’m feeling stronger than ever but still have considerable work to do to be able to walk again without crutches and that the bone graft fully heals.
Part of this recovery has been intensive physical therapy. My insurance company originally approved my physical therapy regimen but I have since found out they would no longer be covering them. I owe my insurance company $4,841 to cover previous appointments. If I want to resume physical therapy (which I need to in order to walk again), I will need at least $4,000 more to finish out my regimen (2 sessions a week for the next few months at $150 per session)
I am caught in a rough cycle that far too many of us know where without treatment I won’t be able to return to work at full capacity and without work I won’t be able to afford the treatment I need.
My first concern is covering the physical therapy I need to get better, so I am
setting a goal of $8850 (past and future PT expenses). Eventually I hope to repay all medical debts. Oh I deeply appreciate any and all help you might be able to offer
If you aren’t able to donate, I’d appreciate you sharing this link.
Thank you!
