My name is Edwin Batte from Murrieta, California. I am a physician by trade and a parent at heart. I'm part of a group working hard to save a little girl's life. Anabel is 6 years old and lives in Rwanda, central Africa with her mother, father and older sister. In March 2015, she was diagnosed with sickle cell disease . She been hospitalized and undergone blood transfusions on several occasions ever since. In just over a year, she has suffered three strokes with serious effects. She stands a very high chance of another stroke, which might leave her with debilitating effects or worse, rob her from her family. Her doctors have determined that a bone marrow transplant is what she needs.
Unfortunately, there are no local hospitals where this procedure can be done and the process takes several weeks. Although she would obtain excellent care in the United States, the cost is very high. That said, I have faith in the goodness of people out there! Together, we can make a difference in this girl's health and life.
BLK Super Specialty Hospital in New Delhi, India is a cheaper alternative that is being considered. The total cost for her care in India is estimated to be about $50,000. The money will cover the clinical testing, procedure / treatment, transportation, room and board for her and parents.
I have never met Anabel but I know her family well. I went to elementary school with her dad, Moses. He is one of my close friends in spite of the distance between us. In a way, Anabel is my daughter, too. Moses and his wife, Rhoda, are involved in the higher education sector in Rwanda, training health care providers and educators.
Let's help them save their daughter's life!
We've partnered with the Ugandan American Adventist Association (UGAMAA), a 501(C) (3) non –profit organization, to assist in channeling funds donated to Anabel and her family. Dr. Frederick Nyanzi, its president, is the funds coordinator and account information is available at www.ugamaa.org for those who would like to donate directly to this cause and receive receipts for tax deduction purposes.
Thank you and God bless you!
