Theo Raven Dedication

Theo ”Doodlet” Raven, was beloved by locals and visitors alike. She was truly an integral piece of the cultural fabric of downtown Santa Fe. For fifty years Theo ran Doodlet’s, the charming and iconic shop full of whimsical stuff for kids of all ages that she started with her mother, “Ma”Ruthling, in the early fifties. The shop reflected her love of local art, Santa Fe's rich culture, her quirky sense of humor, and her lasting passion for animals. Theo became a staple on the northwest corner of Water and Galisteo, winning a Historic Preservation Award for the renovation of the building that houses the shop.

 

Theo cultivated a distinctive look, inspiring renowned sculptor Victoria Davila to take interest in Theo as a muse. Davila's portraits of Theo inspired this project and the search to find a permanent home for these works. In honor of Theo’s deep love of Santa Fe, and in turn our community’s love for her, we have partnered with Sig Lindell - Ist District Councilwoman of Santa Fe, and Randy Randall - Executive Director of Tourism Santa Fe to permanently house the two portrait busts as public art pieces within our historic district.

 

In an effort to make this vision a reality we are inviting the community, and admirers of Theo, to participate in funding the gift of these artworks to our city. The city has marked two potential locations for these installations: a full sized bronze bust to be housed within the Santa Fe Convention Center (pictured above), a full sized colored bust to be placed in a surprise location, and the donation of a framed portrait of Theo and her bust to the Espanola Humane.

 

The dedication of these sculptural works will be celebrated in a public unveiling event.

 

All proceeds surpassing our stated goal will be gifted directly to Espanola Humane, a cherished organization of Theo’s.
