Hi guys,
Thanks for taking the time to read my story. I am 33 years old, and have been living with Type 1 diabetes for over 20 years now (since I was 10 years old). Since having this terrible disease, I have accumulated many complications, such as Diabetic Retinopathy (eye disease), Hypertension (high blood pressure). I am currently suffering from Stage 5 (end stage) Kidney Disease. I have been on the waiting list for a transplant for some time now - I did manage to have a spk (simultaneous pancreas & kidney transplant) earlier this year, however this was unsuccessful due to rejection and blood clot. During this time, I was seriously ill in hospital and it was thought that I would not pull through.
Because of this, my health has now deteriorated even further and I now need help urgently - I am currently undergoing dialysis three times per week. I am back on the waiting list, but have been told by specialists that I can now expect to wait between 6-7 years for another transplant, which to be frank, is a very big risk for me to wait such a length of time as my blood clots very easily due to dialysis and I don't think waiting up to 7 years is realistic for me at this point.
I hope to go private in order to speed up the process, and save my life. But to do this, I need to raise at least £30,000. By going private, I would have the option to get the surgery done in under 6 months.
Currently, due to my severe illness, I cannot work, and was having to claim benefits in the past. I have lost 90% of my vision in my left eye, and I also suffer from random Diabetic Seizures. These restrict me from even leaving the house on my own, let alone work. So I am also hoping to raise some money in order to support myself whilst I wait to get the surgery and can go back to having a normal life.
