Ethan is my great nephew who was born on April 7, 2016. His mother, my niece, was so excited to have this little bundle of joy in her life! She is only 20 years old, her first child, and a TRUE gift from the Lord. As her pregnancy went on, Ethan was measuring as he should and was deemed as healthy as can be. Lillian's water broke at 39 weeks and 7 days and her adrenaline kicked in! After all the doctor appointments of hearing his heart beat and seeing his face in the ultrasound; the time has come!
As Lillian began to deliver Ethan, she noticed that it was taking longer than normal to push him out. She was basing this on the countless number of Hollywood movies she had seen and real-time educational ones as well; she was naive at the time frame. She thought maybe it IS supposed to take this long, maybe he just has a big 'ol head like his daddy, lol. After pushing for, what seem to be an eternity, Ethan finally made his way out, but......this was only the beginning of their journey.
When Ethan came out, doctor's and nurse immediately began resuscitation measures on him; he was stuck with IVs, tubes, and was intubated. Before Lillian could recover from the delivery, medical staff told her he was being air-lifted to Le Bonheur Children's Hospital NICU. Lillian sat in shock as she did not even get the chance to see or hold Ethan; he was gone before she could lay eyes on him.
The neurologist at Le Bonheur met Lillian at the front desk and told her the news. Ethan was declared brain dead when he was delivered. Brain imaging showed severe hypoxia at time of delivery and he had little chance of survival. After countless tests, scans, and huddle meetings, Ethan was put on palliative care based on his status.
Lillian has been at Ethan's side ever since. He currently resides in the NICU and is ventilator dependent. After months of praying and talking to medical stall members, Lillian and Ethan's dad have decided to take Ethan off the vent in August 2016.
I cannot image just HOW deep the pain is or what she is going through, but I know she could use the support and an abundance of prayers :)
She would like a proper burial for Ethan, but being a college student and barely working (to keep by her son's side), she does not have the monetary means to do so. ALL proceeds will go to this loving family in their time of need. Thank you for your time and prayers
