Hello Everyone! This project was created to help my Dad, Stephen Daneman, Sr.
On November 30th my father was rushed to the hospital complaining of shortness of breath and running a high fever. He was immediately diagnosed with COVID-19. After two weeks of not responding to treatment in the ICU he was intubated, put on a ventilator, and placed into a medically-induced coma. He was given experimental medication to prevent lung failure. Steve spent ten days in a coma. During this time his mother passed away from COVID. After his sedation was discontinued he remained unresponsive for an additional seven days.
After he awoke he was transferred to a long-term nursing facility for extended care. My Dad remained on a ventilator, with a tracheotomy, and on dialysis. My mother and I were told the odds were not in his favor.
For months my mother and I would call and Facetime him constantly to give him hope and words of encouragement. Desperate to help him, and feeling he was not getting better at this facility, we made the decision to transfer him to a different hospital in the hopes he would improve. At Advent Health he received the best care from the staff and for the first time began to show improvement - a night and day difference from the past few months. Under their care they were able to wean him off the ventilator, allowing him to breathe on his own within two weeks.
Today, Stephen Daneman is in the final stage of recovery and working hard at physical therapy to get his strength and mobility back. My dad is my best friend and the most genuine, kind-hearted man I have known in my life, the example I try to emulate. To have him here today after this seven-month ordeal is both a miracle and a blessing. This has proven to me that family and love can often be the best medicine when someone is sick. Fox 13 did a story on my father's long ordeal on April 28th. My mom wanted his story out there for others who are going through similar situations and to try and give those people hope.
