Early in January of this year Jean (my mom) was diagnosed with Chronic Lymphatic Leukemia (CLL) a chronic form of leukemia. She has to get monthly blood work done to keep a close eye on the numbers of her white blood cell count and other blood related levels. Her most recent blood test came back indicating that her white blood cell count is still off the chart elevated in reference to what “normal” is. Her iron levels have taken a dive and she is anemic despite taking dietary iron supplements and trying her best to eat foods high in iron. If her iron levels do not improve she will need an iron infusion, which may or may not be “the fix” as the problem may be directly related to the health of the bone marrow.

Mid November of 2020 Pat (my dad) went to see a new primary care physician because the old one was no longer in network. The new doctor ordered blood tests and discovered high levels of hepatitis C in his blood. Pat was informed that Hep C was curable these days and the Dr. sent a referral to a hepatologist. There was a 4-month waiting list to get an appointment.  Fast forward to May 5th, 2021, after multiple tests with the liver doctor, Pat has been diagnosed with stage-4 liver cancer. Because of the intensity, severity and the number of cancer markers outside the liver, he is not a candidate for a transplant. Although there are a number of treatments they believe may stay the progression of the cancer, depending on the compatibility of the chemistry of his body; his prognosis is 4-11 months. 

Pat is now currently on short-term disability but once this runs out he will lose his medical insurance that covers both him and Jean. 

The funds will be primarily used to cover medical and insurance costs.
