Help Farris Mike McManus fight his Stage 3B Liver Cancer. On Friday April 23,2021 Mike had to come to the ER at Pardee Hospital for jaundice & pain. They discovered he had a large mass bigger than a golf ball in the center of his liver bulging into the portal vein. We were told the mass was inoperable due to its location. He has started doing Chemotherapy in Hendersonville to try to shrink the cancer. We are also going to be traveling to the Lavene Cancer Center in Charlotte for treatments.
Mike has spent many years involved in the community. He has been volunteering with the Cub Scouts for 21 years total. He started with Weeblos I’s then Weeblos ll’s for pack 613 then became their Weeblos Den Master and later Cub Master then became Assistant Scout Master. He ended his volunteering as a Committee Member. He led the Shooting Sports for years at the Summer day camps at the local elementary schools. He also led the Shooting Sports at Camp Daniel Boone, Camp Old Indian, Camp Stephens, and Bob Harden. He enjoyed teaching all the cub scouts how to properly handle a gun, gun safety, what to do if they come across a gun, how to properly handle any gun and how to shoot a target. He took great pride in watching them progress and show proper respect for any gun. Praying that these lessons would help them as adults. He served most recently on the District Committee and had to retire this year do to his health.
Mike volunteers with the Henderson County Sheriffs VIP program. He recently received his new rank of Sergeant. He worked in the security area in the Henderson County Court house and helped direct traffic in various areas in our county.
Mike started working at Pardee Hospital September 2019. He loves his job and all the many people he has worked with during his employment. He has not been able to work since his diagnosis.
