101st Combat Vet Needs A Little Help
Hello everyone, as you may have noticed I have recently raised the goal amount by $2500. This was done for several reasons. First, the original goal was grossly underestimated. I thought I would be able to buy a used car and pay to move us into a new apartment.I was able to purchase a vehicle and pay a couple bills with the money from the original goal but that is all. The fact is we didn't receive the full amount set in the goal. GFM charges a percentage and so does "we pay". I don't have a problem with that, its the cost of doing business. However it left us with very little to move with. Its my own fault, I should've asked for a higher amount to begin with. I was trying to be conservative and not seem greedy.
Since the campaign started my health has taken a turn for the worse. I've been to the VA numerous times for labs and tests. All they can tell me so far is my Liver activity is elevated and I must have a blockage somewhere. Because of this illness and the pain that goes with it I have now lost my job. So now we have a car but no job.
As it stands now we have achieved one of the two goals that I started this campaign for in the first place. We are still in very real danger of being homeless. That's why I raised the goal. We still need your help. We have nowhere to go and no money for an apartment. I've done more research and it will cost us at least $2100 to secure a place to live. Time is running out on us. Please Help.
My name is Andrew I have honorably served my country in both the New York state National Guard and active duty Army. More specifically 1st Battalion, 506th Inf, 101st Airborne. I have been called to serve three times. The first being state side in NYC after 9/11, then Iraq and finally Afghanistan. I lost a lot during that time including a thirteen year marriage. Like most of my brothers in arms i have been diagnosed by the VA with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and all that comes with it, the nightmares, hypervigilence, and social anxiety. It is manageable with help. I said all that to say this. 2016 has been hands-down the worst year of my life. Late last year I was offered a job in Wisconsin so my wife and I decided to go for it. We sold our land and about 2/3 of our belongings, packed up the rest and relocated from Florida to Wisconsin. The job fell through but I soon found a better one and things were falling into place. Then we got a call that my Mother had to be hospitalized with her second bout with leukemia. This time she needed a bone marrow transplant. So we sold off as much as we could to get back to Florida. Sadly she didn't survive the transplant. She passed away at the end of January. Since her passing her landlord let us stay in her home unfortunately for us his kindness has run out. I have not been able to find sufficient work. So I haven't been able to pay any rent in months. Now we have also lost our only transportation to probate. So now I have no way to get to and from work. My wife and I are now faced with homelessness. I received a letter stating be must be out by July 21, 2016. I find it very hard to ask for help from strangers but I no longer have a choice. I've never been in a situation like this. I'm desperate. Please help me. I need $3500.00 in order to get a used car, and get into an apartment with 1st, last and security. Most cheap places in this area are about $650 a month . Please Help. Thank You
