Michael Ankeny is a 4-year old boy with an undiagnosed condition that has led to developmental delays and disabilities. Michael is non-verbal (although he does have a few words he tries to say), and, with the help of his family, is exploring other communication methods. He is able to walk, but is unaware of potential dangers in his surroundings and requires adaptive equipment. His case was published in the Pediatric Neurology journal. At the age of three, Michael was diagnosed with seizures and some genetic testing has been done, but they have not found anything significant that would explain Michael’s global developmental delays. His doctors have indicated that Michael may be on the severe end of the Autism spectrum; however, he does not yet have an official diagnosis. Michael is in need of a larger crib, a larger stroller, a highchair/booster that will fit him, a swing, and a communication device, among other things. Donations would also help his family with the costs involved in transporting Michael to physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech twice a week, approximately an hour away from Michael’s hometown.
Michael’s parents (Brent and Chrissy), along with Michael’s 7-year old sister (Makayla), have moved from Eau Claire, WI, to Blue Earth, MN, to be closer to their families. Brent and Chrissy are both Blue Earth Area High School graduates, and both attended the University of Minnesota. Brent currently works remotely for UnitedHealth Group, and Chrissy works part time at Anderson Electric in Blue Earth, and part time at Bath & Body Works in Mankato, MN. They both love their children dearly and are constantly being challenged to find new and creative ways to keep Michael safe and address his needs as he continues to grow.
This campaign has been organized by the Larry Mair family who are asking you to please help the Ankeny family as they face medical, travel, and living expenses in seeing Michael through his life journey. Your donation will go directly to the Ankeny family.
Those who know Michael know that he adores his older sister, loves to laugh, jump, swing, give kisses, loves music, and is working on learning to ride his adaptive trike. This is your opportunity to show your support for Michael and his family and make a difference. Thank you!
