Hi everyone! My name is Hannah (Trail name: Geode) and I am currently attempting a complete thru hike of the Pacific Creat Trail! This trail is 2,650 miles long and I have officially hiked 2,395 miles of it. It has been the most challenging yet rewarding experience of my life so far. But why am I doing this? 

This past year has been very tough on everyone. From losing jobs, to lockdowns, social deprivation, and a feeling of being stuck and alone. When I found this trail, I knew I would someday hike it. In January, when nothing seemed to be changing, I decided it was time to do it. Knowing it would be the most difficult thing I’d ever do, I told my employer I was leaving in March, I sold my car, I paid my phone off, and I got rid of all other expenses (except student loans). I committed to this trail and began to carefully purchase my gear. It was time to do some hiking, soul searching, and think about my future as a geologist (what better way than in the mountains, right? )

Finally, March came and I had all the money I needed saved up, I tied all of my loose ends, and I began packing for the big day. 

I have had a lot of people reach out and ask how they could support me from then until now. I told them that hearing from them was enough and that I would keep everyone posted with pictures and descriptions about the trail.

I am considerably worried that I will run out of money before making it to the end (and that’s not uncommon out here). I had a large cost pop up unexpectedly about 1 week before I left for my trip, but I was committed and couldn’t back out. You never realize how expensive everything is until you see your savings dwindle away before reaching the halfway point.
