Help Storm Heal
Hi everyone! My name is Demi and I’m fundraising to help pay my cat Storm’s vet bills. I have been on medical leave from work for the last three months, so vet bills that are typically manageable have become a struggle.
Storm is a year old, born in August 2020 and I brought him home 10/31/20. He was the runt of his litter (less than 3lbs when I brought him home!) and took the most time getting healthy enough for adoption.
What was thought to be a straightforward upper respiratory infection turned out to be something chronic. His symptoms have been collectively referred to to as rhinitis, URI, conjunctivitis, and there’s a good chance it’s the feline herpes virus. Storm sneezes dozens of times a day and is always congested. He has difficulty breathing and when he gets too clogged up, he can’t smell his food and loses his appetite. Storm’s eyes water a lot and sometimes swell up and are uncomfortable for him.
The vet had us do multiple interventions from antibiotics, to antivirals, to steaming sessions in the bathroom, to transdermal antihistamine. They’ve run blood tests and fecal tests, and all have returned normal. He usually has a secondary bacterial infection so he’ll respond at least temporarily to antibiotics. Since he has responded to antivirals, feline herpes virus has not been ruled out and is considered a probable diagnosis.
Storm’s symptom cycle begins mild for about a week or two, moderate for a week or two, and finally, severe for a few days before we need to go to the vet. We frequent the vet 1-3x per month in addition to two ER visits ever since I brought him home
Storm is scheduled to see an internal medicine specialist on Nov. 2nd. Last week’s vet appointment ran around $378 and his consultation with the specialist in November is $160 before any labs, imaging, and treatment. I joke that I should rename Storm “Maxamillion” because of all the money I’ve spent on him (just a joke, I wouldn’t have wanted my money spent any other way!!), hence “Million Dollar Kitten”
Every dollar is appreciated more than you could ever know!!! Even if you can’t donate, if you could share the link to the fundraiser to even one person, it would mean the world to me and Storm!
