Raising money to finish school
Before I start telling my story I would like to thank everyone that has helped me in the past, with my previous GoFundMe, to get to where I am now. I really do appreciate it but I would like to request your help one last time. I will start my story from the beginning once again.
I finished secondary school in Nigeria in 2015. With the best intentions for my future, my parents did all they could to send me abroad. After a year at home, they were successful and I was accepted to the University Of Prince Edward Island (UPEI), Canada in 2016.
I started university as a General Science student and later declared my major in Sustainable Design Engineering after my first year. With this, my dream to be an Engineer was in motion and I was excited and motivated to do my best to excel.
During my first three years at UPEI, I had maintained a good academic standing. My journey as a student became rocky when an economic recession swept through Nigeria within my second year at UPEI. My father, the sole provider of my family, was severely affected. My dad was temporarily let go which greatly impacted my family's income and we struggled to make payments for my tuition as well as that of my siblings back home. With his dwindling capacity and help from other sources, he staggered to push me through to my final year. I now have one semester left to complete my degree at UPEI.
I was able to raise the money to clear the balance from last year to register for my class for September 2021. With the current COVID situation, it has been hard on my parents and I and I haven’t been able to make any other payments since. I am currently about to finish the Fall semester but in order to register for the Winter semester in January, I need to pay the full amount of about $10000 to cover the past due balance on my account for this semester and raise another $8000 for that Winter semester to graduate. Please, I need your help.
Prior to 2016, I was heavily dependent on my parents for 17 years of life so it took a lot of adjusting to finally accept that I would have to support myself. Since 2017, I have had to provide for my own needs by taking part-time jobs to take care of my personal and living expenses during the school year period and full time during the holidays. This made it more difficult for my academics, though I managed to keep myself in good standing. As an international student, I am only allowed to work 20 hours a week during the school period, and most of the money goes towards my house rent and my upkeep which makes it very difficult to pay off my tuition debts by myself.
My desire is to have the grace to pay in full, my past due bills for this semester plus my bill for January so that I can finally graduate from school. This will be unachievable without your help. I hope you see this and consider donating. Whatever you give brings me one step closer to completing my degree and graduating from school. Thank you very much for your time.
