Mary Mahler and Family Support Fund

Mary Mahler, wife, mother of four, and grandmother of 14 was diagnosed with breast cancer (ductal carcinoma) early in 2003.  After chemotherapy, radiation, and a radical mastectomy, she lived cancer free for 11 years. In October 2014, scans revealed that the cancer had returned and was Stage IV (metastatic). There is no cure, just treatment to try to slow the cancer's growth. Two weeks ago, on June 29, Mary, surrounded by her husband and four children, Jennifer (John) Campbell, Matt (Sayeda) Mahler, Kate (Matt) Allemand, and Mary (Caleb) O'Kray, received the harsh news that the treatment Mary was on had stopped working and the latest scans showed that not only had the cancer gotten worse in the original locations (lung, liver, and sternum) but it had spread to her pelvis, skin, cancer-fluid in abdomen, lymph nodes, and spine, upper-back. Because of her very weakened state, her oncologist said that any further treatment would only harm her and probably shorten whatever remaining time she had. Hospice has been started and though wanting to fight and have more time with her loved ones, she is suffering.

Her husband Mike who travels overseas to work needs to stay home to help care for his wife, and will need help with the bills that are starting to accumulate. Three of their four children live out of state (Texas, Virginia, and Australia) and have incurred great financial stress to fly their families to Washington State to help take care of their mom and "Mimi." The fund will also assist the family in extra hospice care for Mary.
