On May 19th, a man decided to do drugs and get into a car. On the same day 16 yr old Breanna had her license for 1 day and because she is a responsible teen with a strong sense of responsibility, she was allowed to pick up her 7 yr old brother Calvin.
On Strub Rd, the man plowed head on into Breanna's car. She turned like her step father had taught her, turned just enough to probably save her life and the life of her little brother. However, it took first responders an hour to get Calvin out of the car. He was life-flighted to Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital.
Breanna had a bone sticking out of her arm, but insisted everyone take care of her baby brother first. She would later have surgery and spend time in the hospital.
Calvin has spent his summer in the hospital. Unable to walk, his head in a halo, undergoing a dangerous surgery to fuse his vertebrae and give him hope of maybe one day walking again.
The man who hit them has been charged with two counts of felony aggravated vehicular assault. He's out on $3000 bond as of July 14th. Calvin just came home a few days ago. He continues to have to go to therapy and is in a wheelchair. His parents are driving him back and forth to Cleveland for doctor's appointments and he's going to therapy several times a week. His father, a self-employed farmer, should be working from dawn to dusk in the fields this time of year, but he's been a constant at his son's side.
Please help what you can. All donations will go to the parents who will use it to pay for gas, supplies, and therapy for their children as insurance pays slow and many of these expenses are now coming out of their pockets. They are hard working people who would never ask for charity or help. I will not have access to these funds and will work with the family so they alone can withdraw it. Please help.
