In January 2018, I had flu-like symptoms. I was sent home from Urgent Care and was in the ER within 3 days. It was then that I was diagnosed with acute pneumonia. After several tests, lab work, and CT scans, I was recommended to a pulmonologist (lung specialist). After another series of tests, lab work, an CT scans given by the pulmonologist, I was scheduled to get a bronchoscopy (a biopsy involving tissue from my left and right lungs). A week later, those results were in and it was discovered that I have sarcoidosis. Sarcoidosis is the growth of tiny collections of inflammatory cells in different parts of the body; it affected my left lung completely, and about 30-40% of my right lung. Now my right lung has to do the work for itself and the left lung. After reviewing my medical files, it was revealed that I had those cloudy patches on my lungs for about 5 years. Due to issues with my kidneys, my urologist had images on file with my lungs included, but he was only focused on the kidneys; therefore, he looked past the sarcoidosis. It is a rare, incurable disease. Symptoms include cough, shortness of breath, and chest pain. My next step is to see a rheumatologist. Meanwhile my downtime from work is about six months, so I have a huge lack of income; this is the reason for my GoFundMe.
