MOBILE COUNTY, AL (WALA) -Two Tennessee women were killed in a head-on collision in Mobile County on Saturday. It happened on Highway 45 north of Eight Mile.

Both of the drivers were killed – 64-year-old Mary Robinson and 26-year-old Amanda Murley.

While state troopers are still investigating what caused the crash, four people, including two toddlers, are in the hospital. All four of those people were inside Murley’s car. FOX10 News spoke to her family members, who tell us they are devastated and waiting on surgery results.

Inside the hospital are: Murley’s fiancé and Memphis Police officer, Tony Vuong, her two year-old son, her sister, and her two-year-old nephew.

The family was driving through Mobile after a vacation in Destin when their lives changed forever.

On Highway 45, you can still spot an area of brown leaves - the burnt remains of the crash. You can also see mangled parts of the car and half-buried police tape.

"I can't imagine the pain the family is going through right now,” said James Ladnier as he looked at the aftermath.

Ladnier, an army veteran and former volunteer firefighter, was doing yard work at his mother’s house nearby when it happened.

"It was frantic for the most part,” said Ladnier. “Everybody was running around trying to help in some way, shape or form."

Ladnier, along with his mother, wife, and passengers in a car that witnessed the crash, did all they could to help the victims.

“We had used about five fire extinguishers, trying to keep it from engulfing the inside of the vehicle."

Ladnier said one by one, they tried to pull each passenger out. His mother and wife brought the victims water and cold towels.

Each toddler was trapped inside the back of the mangled car. Ladnier pulled both of them out right before the vehicle caught on fire. We’re told one of the toddlers was unresponsive and is currently in the ICU.

"Both of us ended up taking in a lot of smoke. It took about 15 minutes."

Ladnier explained the driver sides of each vehicle took the brunt of the collision. By the time paramedics arrived, Murley was already gone.

Family members told us over the phone that she was a smart, kind-hearted woman who loved her family more than anything. We’re told Murley and Vuong were high school sweethearts. They were getting married in October.

There are no words to describe the heartache the family is enduring right now.

Ladnier spent the day with the family in the hospital. He says it's a day that will stay with him the rest of his life.

"My heart reaches out for every one of them."

We were unable to reach state troopers on Sunday for any update on what caused the crash. We will keep you updated as more information becomes available.

Brittany, Drake, and Chase is stationed in Elpaso, Tx. but when Chase deployed Brittany and Drake come to Drummonds to stay with family for a few months. Everything Brittany and Drake had here in TN. burned up in the accident. Chase was also out all expenses to get back home from overseas which was well over 2000$. All thoughts and prayers are greatly appreciated.
