Hello, my name is Gary Scudder. I am the Band Director for Stockdale Christian School in Bakersfield, CA.

My teaching career includes time as a faculty member at Fullerton College, California State University Fullerton, and Biola University. In addition, I have been educating young musicans for over thirty years through clinics, summer camps, private lessons, and as Music Director at Whittier Christian Elementary. I have been the Band Director at Stockdale Christian School for twenty-three years. 

My passion for teaching young musicians has led me to develop my own curriculum: Music Workouts.

Over the last thirty years I have worked and reworked this method. I have tested it with students and sought counsel from a large number of music teachers and professionals. I am finally on the home stretch and wish to bring it to music teachers around the country. 

Here is my Teaching Philosphy:


My curriculum merges both private teaching and classroom teaching giving educators a tool to methodically progress through specific musical skills for each instrument including: Warm-Up, Tonguing, Rhythm, Technique, and so on.  See below my Table of Contents.




After years of work, I have finally completed all 14 books for Music Workouts: Level 1. They are ready to be set up professionally and formatted for printing. This will cost approximately 15,000 dollars. I am reaching out to my friends, old and new, and music teachers throughout Bakersfield and beyond to help me finish my life's work: creating a detailed, skill-based method that helps students from all ages and levels succeed at learning music.

My hope is that my method will be flexible to successfully adapt to any band program and comprehensive enough for study with a private instructor.
