Please Help Nova

Hello, my name is Jamie. I want to tell you about Nova.

On Friday, June 2, 2023, I had taken my dog outside to do her doggy activities and I was approached by a girl that lives in the same apartment complex as me. She said that since I was an animal lover she thought I might be able to help. While outside she heard something coming from another apartment, the man in there was beating his puppy, screaming at her, trashing his apartment and finally he threw the puppy out the front door of his apartment.

I could tell right away that something was wrong with her leg and possibly her foot. She also had a large indention on her side where it seemed that her ribs might have been broken at some point in her life. (They were fine when examined by the but it was a first impression to me.)

She has a very sweet personality and even in pain has not even tried to bite anyone. Despite the rough time she has had in life she is amazing.

As soon as I could I smuggled her to my neighbor's apartment so she could see the damage and we could figure out what to do. The first step was to call the police so that they had a report of the abuse but since the witness had only heard the abuse there was nothing that could be done. At no point in the last 4 days has he even looked for his dog.

She has been taken to the vet. It was finally determined after X-rays and an exam that the ball has been broken from her hip joint. She needs 6 weeks of confined recovery at which point she could need either a major surgery to attempt to repair the joint or an amputation....if neither of those options are affordable then she will be euthanized. It was determined that she is 5 months old and even with her leg being treated she will have arthritis in it for the rest of her life.

My neighbor and I have decided to be her foster parents for the next 6 weeks and then see what happens.

But we are going to need help. Nova (she got a new name to go with her new life) is going to need a crate to be in so she keeps the hip immobilized, along with vet visits, therapy, and medications and she needs to be spayed. We've already spent nearly $300 for her vet care and there is going to be a lot more needed in the future. To get her back to health is going to be around $5000.

We are both on a fixed income so we need some assistance to save this dog.
