RIP Jackson 'Bean' Brewster
June (unknown) - July 13th, 2016
(See 7/13 Update for details)
Sat, July 15th: An ocean of gratitude to everyone that helped us reach our goal and who spread the story of Jackson - I am forever thankful. Though little Jackson wasn't able to bounce back, he passed away cradled in my arms with the love, respect, and dignity that he so deserved. I am thankful that I crossed his path and was able to give him these things before he left this earth.
Thank you for all the love you've shown him and I these past few days, it has brought me some comfort while dealing with the devastation that I feel having lost this sweet little soul. His struggle has touched me in a way that I have no doubt will change my course. I'm leaving his GoFund page up for now because I want people to continue to know and share his story in hopes that other dogs can benefit. Every dog matters.
My sincerest thanks-
Paula

On Friday July 8th this 5 week old puppy was stuffed in a box, dumped as trash and left to die in the Riverside area of Jacksonville, Florida. It was a scorching 102 degrees that day. Thankfully a woman walking her dog realized there was something in the box when her dog smelled it and stopped.
Friday afternoon my path crossed with the woman as she was walking around Riverside looking for someone that was willing to take the puppy as she wasn't able to keep him herself. I quickly knew this pup and I were meant to be.
After an all-nighter trying to get liquids into his tiny emaciated body it became clear that he needed emergency care. Saturday I took him to Affiliated Emergency Veterinary where he tested positive for the Parvo virus. He was immediately put into Critical Care quarantine.
Parvo is a highly contagious and deadly disease in dogs and requires intensive treatment. The treatment and quarantine are also incredibly expensive. My little man, who I've since named Jackson, has been in quarantine since Saturday afternoon. He's showing some signs of improvement but has a long way to go.
He's been transferred to Blue Sky Veterinary Center where he's on IV fluids, is receiving a plasma transfusion, and is being treated with antibiotics for secondary infections, as well as treatment for hook and round worms. In the 72 hours that he's been in the hospital I've incurred expenses totaling $2,596. I expect this number to perhaps triple by the end of this week.
My heart breaks every time I look at his sad little face and wonder what else he's endured in his short 5 weeks of life. This little 4 pound love bug deserves a chance at life after being tossed out like trash. I want him to be able to run and play and feel safe and know that the world is not all bad.
I'm hopeful he's going to pull through and I am totally committed to seeing him through this process. I'm showering him with all the love I have and I have faith he will go home with me to Oregon and live happily ever after this Fall when I'm finished working in Florida.
Donations of any size are greatly appreciated and will go directly to cover the cost of his hospital stay. My most sincere thanks to everyone that has cheered us on these past few days, we couldn't have done it without you.
Please help us by sharing Jackson's story far and wide. And before you consider buying a puppy, please consider adopting one.
Thank you for your support xoxo
