It's times like these I realize my dad is not in fact Superman! He's always been a super active and energetic guy and I sometimes forget he has limits. He unfortunately hit those limits this past Wednesday when he went down on his mountain bike riding on an obstacle. It's really scary to hear that sort of crash and turn around to see you best friend/father laying on the ground moaning in uncontrollable pain! We immdeiately called 911 and had an ambulence and 3 fire trucks there within 20 minutes. They eventually got him loaded up and took him to Wake Med Raleigh since he was going to need a hip specialist and they've got the best of the best.

His first night was tough having to wait several hours to receive full medical attention followed by hours of x-rays and CT Scans. Turns out his femur head smashed through his hep socket and into his pelvis, fracturing it into 4 or 5 places. They put a traction pin into his femur to try pull the femur head back into the socket. His first night was very long  with extensive amounts of pain and discomfort. The next day started abruptly with a visit to the Critial Care/Surgical area where he'd be in surgery for almost 5 hours. Thanks to the amazing hands of Dr. Howard, one of the best orthopaedic surgeons in the area, the surgery went well. They had to cut him from hip to hip to get in and intall a plate and 5 screws to set everything back in place.

He was very groggy/out of it when we saw him later that evening but he was in great shape for what he just went through. The next day (today) was a complete transofrmation and he was back to his regular old jocking/fun self. He's in great spirits and gets better with each day but has a long road of recovery ahead of him. Several more days in the hospital and 2 more weeks in the tharapy ward. No walking on it for 8 weeks, and no strenuous activity for a couple more months. This has been a very stressful experience for the family and any/all help is greatly appreciated as every bit counts! This is going to unfortunately be a very costly accident with the ambulance, x-rays, ct scans, surgery, meds, hospital stay, and all the therapy he's going to need in the coming weeks! He is and has been deeply touched by all the support and outreach by friends and family! Love you all and appreciate everyone in our lives!
