Banding Together for Brendan

I am setting this page up for two dear friends, Dana and Steven, and their little boy Brendan. Brendan is 3 months old and was admitted to UVA Children's Hospital last week. He was diagnosed on Thursday, March 21st with the rare childhood cancer called Neuroblastoma. On Friday, March 22nd, Brendan underwent surgery to remove a tumor from his adrenal gland. The surgery ultimately resulted in the removal of his entire adrenal gland. Brendan is currently recovering from the sugery and remains in the hospital. Dana and Steven have stayed by Brendan's side since he was admitted. They will find out this week whether or not the tumor was malignant or benign and possible next steps, as well as what further treatment will be needed to address an additional condition called Opsoclonus (uncontrolled eye movement).

As you can imagine, neither Dana nor Steven have been working since Brendan entered the hospital. Both exhausted their leave through their employers after Brendan was born, never expecting to go through something like this. Unfortunately, even during times like this, the reality of a mortgage, car payments and life expenses still remain. Dana and Steven are enduring gas and food costs while remaining in Charlottesville. There will undoubtedly be very high medical bills to come.

I am asking for your support to help Brendan, Dana and Steven through this very difficult time. Your donations would help this family now and in the future. Every dollar will make an impact. Donations as little as $1 can make a difference. Thank you for taking the time to visit this page and for considering how you can help this precious little boy and his amazing parents!

A little information on Neuroblastoma:

"Neuroblastoma is a rare cancer in which a solid tumor (a lump or mass caused by uncontrolled or abnormal cell growth) is formed by special nerve cells called neuroblasts. Normally, these immature cells grow and mature into functioning nerve cells. But in neuroblastoma, they become cancer cells instead. Neuroblastoma most commonly starts in the tissue of the adrenal glands, the triangular glands on top of the kidneys that produce hormones responsible for controlling heart rate, blood pressure, and other important functions. Like other cancers, neuroblastoma can spread (metastasize) to other parts of the body, such as the lymph nodes, skin, liver, and bones. "
