Azad’s Memorial and Secondline in Denver
On 5-20-21 the world lost one of its brightest lights in KR Azad. This brilliant young man had a place in every heart and mind he came in contact with, bringing out the best in all of us.
Azad was a singularly talented musician and well-respected member of the music community, known across the country and internationally. He made his home in the American Midwest of Colorado, Kansas and Missouri and was a foundational member of many ensembles.
Join us as we raise funds to celebrate the life of Azad with the Denver community. Those of us planning the service have picked Cervantes, a stage that Azad would’ve loved to play in the hopes we can celebrate his life the way he lived - through music and song. All funds will go toward the provision of the celebration and associated costs. Any additional profits will go towards an endowed scholarship fund in his name at his alma mater, University of Kansas (see below for more information).
This event will feature live performances from the following bands:
Sita
Ghost Tapes
Stop Motion
Brothers of Brass
Following the live performances will be an open mic for those to attempt stand-up and share memories of Azad. A video game tournament of his favorite games will be ongoing throughout the event.
Brandon Draper, a KU drum professor, has created an endowed scholarship fund in memory of KR Azad. This scholarship will go towards a music student committed to focusing on world percussion. Azad was the first student to take part in all world percussion classes during his time at KU. This scholarship will help to foster young musicians’ curiosity and interest in the world of music.
We love you Azad, we’ll see you soon.
The event Will be held this upcoming Tuesday, June 12, 2021
