We are asking for donations to help pay for medical expenses for our 3 year old Dutch Shepherd Bane. Bane is a vibrant dog, that is full of life and has touched the lives of many people. Since the age of 6 weeks, Bane has been by my side, running full throttle at life.
Bane is an active sport dog competing in protection sports and dock diving. He has won countless dock diving events. Additionally, Bane has been featured in a K9 Safety Video at the National Training Academy for US Probation. He has done demonstrations and trainings for US Probation in North Carolina, Virginia, West Virginia, Rhode Island, North Dakota, Kentucky and Tennessee. During these trainings Bane has instructed officers in how to interact safely with dogs to the benefit of both officers and dogs in the community.
On July 10, 2016, Bane suffered a freak accident playing in the yard. He was chasing a ball at full speed, leapt into the air and landed full force on top of a farm plow. Bane dislocated his sternum and which will require surgery to repair. Bane has a lot of life left in him and will benefit greatly from surgery. The surgery is estimated to be in excess of by Virginia Tech $4000. His case is highly unusual and the veterinarians were dumbfounded when they saw his x-rays. There is only one other documented case of a similar injury to a bulldog in Britain. The dog experienced a full recovery after surgery.
All money will be used to help pay for surgery, follow-up care and any other expenses related to his recovery. Bane is a once in a lifetime dog, that we will do anything possible to ensure his comfort and ability to continue working. Due to the unique nature of this injury, we will likely be traveling to NC State and or Ohio State for second and third opinions on repair options.
We (Bane's family) will be eternally grateful for any and all donations.
