RESTORE THE FIRE TOWER

Donation protected
Ouabache State Park has lost one of its pieces of history.
Friends of Ouabache State Park has partnered with the Indiana Department of Natural Resources to restore the fire tower at the Ouabache State Park.  Due to safety concerns, the access to the tower was closed in the spring of 2015.   The surrounding communties have supported our efforts to raise the funds necessary to reopen the tower.  We are within $15,000 of the estimated cost.  The Department of Natural Resources has pledged that any expenses above that amount will be obsorbed by them.  They continue to demonstrate their desire to see the tower back to it's original stature.   Wells County Foundation has granted a $25,000 matching grant to the Fire Tower Restoration Project.  The Department of Natural Resources has said they will provide any shortfall that the Friends of Ouabache are unable to raise of the $25,000 by April 30,2017.  Friends of Ouabache is continuing in fund raising efforts.  Please consider donating to this worthy project.

The cost of restoring the tower:
$75,000

DO YOU REMEMBER?
That first climb up the tower?
The thrill of making it to the top?
The pride the first time your Mom let you climb it all by yourself?
Holding your breath as you stared straight up all those stairs as your child participated in a right of passage?

If you do, you know how special that fire tower is.
We want future generations to have those memories.

The Friends of Ouabache State Park is a not for profit organization that works for the betterment and preservation of the Ouabache State Park.  Kathy Schwartz is the Secretary of the Board of Directors of the organization.  She is  the originator due to the fact that Go Fund Me requires an individual rather than an organization.  All funds collected will be directly deposited into the Friends of Ouabache State Park/Fire Tower Restoration  account at the First Bank of Berne.  We will continue to raise funds to finance the restoration until the tower is restored.  It is not IF this will happen, but WHEN.

As of February 1, 2017 the Department of Natural Resources has designated this as a priority project.  That is due to the continual support and enthusiasm we have received from the communities surrounding the park.   We would like to thank the Department of Natural Resources for their continued support and recognizing the value of preserving the past, celebrating the present, and planning for the future.  Together we will get this done.

All donations are greatly appreciated!
