Hiker Falls 90ft: Jon Watari
Donation protected
On September 20, my brother, Jonathan and his friend, Jack, were rock climbing Mt. Stuart in Central WA. After climbing 9100ft/9400ft in elevation, Jonathan and his friend had decided to call their day early because they ran out of water. After 10-15 feet of smooth repelling, Jon’s repel sling snapped, causing him to immediately free fall 90 feet onto granite rock.
After regaining consciousness, Jonathan learned that he had suffered from a collapsed lung, a broken femur, a broken jaw, and intense trauma in his knee internal tissue.
Search and Rescue services initially had declined his request for a rescue because of harsh weather conditions. Thankfully, Jon’s hiking buddy, Jack Taylor was prepared for any contingency and took the necessary first steps in keeping Jon alive.
After hours the military was dispatched to recover him. Six hours after the fall, he was flown to a Central Washington Hospital in Wenatchee, WA.
Without the brave help of our military servicemen, and Jon’s hiking buddy, Jack, we are convinced Jonathan would not be here with us today.
Jonathan, an avid hiker and rock climber, who has trekked all throughout California, Oregon, and Washington, is now facing his biggest challenge to date: recovery.
Jonathan, who is from Hawaii and graduated from Mid-Pacific Institute in 2015, is currently studying Environmental Science at Seattle University as a junior.
As we arrange for Jonathan’s recovery, our family is reaching out to the online community to help us with medical bills, flights, and other very costly expenses that come with an injury of this magnitude.
We are very appreciative of your support!
