I am a paraprofessional working with children with special needs in the Elk Grove Unified School District. I am currently working at an elementary school where many of the children are at-risk and are living near or at poverty. Many of these wonderful children also experience significant childhood stress and trauma that greatly impacts their ability to learn. Over the past year, I have been introducing my students to mindful movment (yoga) practices and teaching self-calming techniques. Many of my students have never had the opportunity to learn these practices which help reduce stress, help facilitate healing and increase the ability to focus and learn.
Teaching mindful movement to my students and helping them to develop self-understanding, empathy and compassion is my true passion and the work of the heart. To continue to bring these practices to my students, it is important that I attend yoga teacher training. The training will provide me with in-depth instruction in yoga and will lead to a certification with the Yoga Alliance.
I have choosen to attend the Yoga Seed 200 hour yoga teacher training in Sacramento. The Yoga Seed's mission which is near to my heart is to make yoga or mindful movement practices accessible to all, especially underserved and at-risk populations. With your support, I will be able to attend the teacher training in September 2016. All donations will be directly used to fund this training.
I am deeply grateful for any support that you can provide.
