Amber is an amazing & genuine woman. She is a devoted wife, a loving mother, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a granddaughter, a friend and so much more to so many people.
She started having pain in Dec. and thought it was an ovarian cyst. Went in to get it checked in Feb, they couldn't find anything, the pain stopped by the end of the month. In March her symptoms returned. At the end of April they found a tumor in her bladder, then the first week of May they took part of it out. It was adenocarcinoma, which is usually colon cancer. They checked her colon and it was clear.
At that point, Amber was diagnosed with a rare cancer, urachal cancer - which is a rare form of bladder cancer. She has seen 5 different doctors from naturopaths to oncologists and had second, third and fourth opinions. It all comes back the same. Chemo and radiation don't work on it. Unless it metastasized somewhere else then maybe chemo & or radiation for secondary cancer. Statistically if the surgery on the 13th of July, to cut the rest of the cancer out is successful, she might get five more years. They are taking half of her bladder and all of her insides from the bladder to the belly button.
Her Dr's have given her a dismal prognosis.
Amber has 4 children; Cyan, Leah, Adyn and Wyatt. They are her life! If we believe the prognosis they have given her she may not be here to see her youngest son turn 10. Of course we are not focusing on that grim prognosis, rather that she will be the exception to their medical diagnosis and that she will beat this!
Amber has had her first surgery already; which the total amount out of pocket for that outpatient surgery is $2300.
Her second surgery is on 7/13/16 and will be a 4 hour surgery with a 3 day hospital stay. Her insurance covers all but 10%; so although we are unsure of the total cost if we look at her amount out of pocket for the shorter, outpatient surgery we can only assume the cost will be significantly more for the longer, more intense surgery with a 3 day hospital stay.
Her 2nd surgery will determine if the cancer has spread. If it has NOT spread her follow up will consist of scans on a regular basis, as her cancer does not respond to chemotherapy and/or radiation. If it HAS spread she will go through chemotherapy and radiation.
Amber does not get paid for any time off from work. Her Dr has said he expects her to need to be off work for 3-4 weeks. Her husband, Clem, also does not get paid time off; therefore he will need to return to work the day after surgery. The family will have regular household bills that will accumulate while they are a one income household during her recovery.
Money donated will go towards medical bills, household costs, and gas for caregivers that are traveling from the Oregon Coast to care for Amber during her recovery.
Words cannot even begin to express how devastating this has been to Amber and everyone that knows her. She would give a complete stranger the shirt off her own back. She dedicates herself to her family, her church, and charity work. Please help us to help her and her family through this difficult time and help offset the financial burden they will face.
