Cheryl Taylor moved to Yellowknife in the summer of 2011 with her two children Kaitlyn and Cody. Cheryl has a love of the outdoors and a humble and compassionate nature; and Yellowknife quickly became their home.
On the morning of Sunday August 30th Cheryl received, the phone call that every parent dreads, the devastating news that her daughter Kaitlyn had been in a serious car accident along Highway 3. Kaitlyn was immediately medevac’d to University Hospital in Edmonton, AB for treatment of severe head trauma. A week later, Kaitlyn is still sedated in the NICU; where the medical team is working to uncover the extent of the injuries to her brain, neck and spine and determine further treatment. While we still do not know the full extent of her injuries, we know that Kaitlyn appears calmer when her mother is holding her hand and that her best chance at recovery is with her mom by her side for the next several months. Kaitlyn is going to need all the strength and resilience Cheryl embodies now more than ever.
If you know Cheryl, you know that she is often quietly behind the scenes finding ways to volunteer to help and support our community. In order for her to make this continued long term stay in Edmonton and be with Kaitlyn she is going to need our emotional and financial support and good wishes. To those of you who have already offered assistance in various ways please know you have Cheryl and Cody’s deepest gratitude. Thank you all.
