Hello from the Carpenters - Chad, Jill, Grace, Natalie, and Ali!
Our family is planning a mission to Cambodia in order to work with Water of Life, an orphanage located in the city of Phnom Penh. We plan to be there for two weeks, from December 6th - 20th, 2016 with a group from our church, Calvary Chapel La Pine. Water of Life is doing great work and our church has supported them for a number of years, now. This will be the first time, however, that we have been able to send a team to aid in their effort. As of this writing there are eight people planning to participate in this effort. Poverty is great in Cambodia, both in urban and rural areas alike - 1 in 3 children are orphaned, many of whom live on the streets and suffer from malnutrition. The work we will be doing while there will include teaching children basic skills such as hygiene and academics in addition to the Bible, distributing food and basic supplies among rural villages, and participating in the training of Pastors throughout the area.
Our church is currently raising money to help off-set travel costs as well as to go towards needed supplies. Our family needs to raise $4500 for our portion of the trip in order to mainly cover the cost travel. We have been putting money away for a few months now in addition to selling household items to help raise needed funds (we have a car for sale if anyone is interested!). Grace and Natalie both have jobs and they are saving a portion of their pay checks to go towards our trip and Ali is doing what she can (babysitting, house cleaning, etc...) to contribute, as well. We feel this is a great learning experience for the girls as they work and sacrifice in order to help and serve people in need. We wanted to give our family and friends an opportunity to hear about what we are doing and humbly ask for your support in this endeavor. Jill and I think this will be a life-changing experience for the girls as they see how people in another part of the world live in addition to being a special time for our family as we serve abroad together. Any contribution will be greatly appreciated and will be helpful as we prepare for the mission. Thanks for taking time to read this and please let us know of you have any questions.
