I have started this go fund me page for my cousin and best friend Leora, who was diagnosed 18 months ago with colon cancer. At 25 years old, her colon was removed and she underwent 6 months of chemotherapy, just in case it had spread. Almost one year ago today, we were celebrating beating cancer. Not only beating it, but completing chemotherapy while still snowboarding, working full time and living life to the fullest.
In November, a tumor was removed from her lung but was thought to have been there originally and was not a sign of spreading. Fast forward to last week and why I am starting this page. A 7.5 cm mass was found on her ovary (and left ovary removed) , and a small spot on her liver was diagnosed on an MRI. What this means is, the cancer has spread and is still in her body. What this means is, the original chemotherapy didn’t work. What this means is, we have to find a different way to attack these cells.
This page is to raise money for an individualized chemotherapy protocol, where the drugs can be tailored to the cancer cells, and has a higher chance of working. The money will be used for the individualized treatment (estimated a minimum of US $50,000).
It is hard to believe this all while I sit here and type it out. My amazing, gorgeous, 26 year old cousin is battling through something no one should ever have to go through. She is the bravest and most inspiring person I know and cancer hasn’t slowed her down one bit, and I know it never will. These funds will give her the opportunity to get the treatment she needs and to beat this once and for all (a 90% success rate!). Even if you cannot donate, please share this page, keep us in your thoughts, and give your family a hug.
P.S. As this is a Canadian campaign all donations are in Canadian currency!
