Kennedy’s Battle
Donation protected
On Friday, April 22nd, we noticed a lump had come up on Kennedy’s arm. She hadn’t complained about it and it seemed to have come out of nowhere. Took her to Urgent Care who just said it was a swollen lymph node but it continued to grow over the weekend. That Monday morning, her mom, Miranda, took her to the pediatrician who immediately was concerned. She measured the lump, marked it, and ordered an ultrasound for that Wednesday. We were told if it gets bigger call ASAP. Well, less than 24 hours it was much larger so the pediatrician had her admitted to the hospital.
They immediately started performing tests and her mother was told “it looks to be a type of bone cancer”. They then transferred her to the cancer unit at a local pediatric hospital. More tests and a
Biopsy where performed. Once the pathology reports came back, we were relieved to learn it was NOT cancer but a rare condition called Fibromatosis.
Even though Fibromatosis is not cancer, it still has to be treated with chemotherapy. We were told the mass is in the “worst possible spot” and if they performed surgery now she could lose use of most of her right hand.
It was determined she will have to endure 1 year of chemotherapy in hopes of shrinking the mass on her arm.
Her mother has had to take a Leave of Absence from her job as an Afterschool teacher because of this. Her mother, Miranda, is a single mom and the sole caregiver of Kennedy. Between traveling back and forth for chemo plus the everyday expenses at home (utilities, food, home bills) things are starting to pile up. This, of course, is adding to the mountain of stress her mother is already under.
Thank you very much for your support. Her mom is doing the very best she can to stay above water but as the weeks turn into months and the fact this will be her new normal for at least the next year, it will be impossible to stay afloat financially while Kennedy is on her journey to getting better and overcoming this.
