Flamenco del Mar & Graffiti Art TAS

My name is Marina Tamayo. I have been working alongside the Australian arts community as a flamenco practitioner for thirty -five years. Within these years I have dedicated myself to promoting and producing works that incorporate and collaborate with outstanding passionate artists some of these are established professionals and others are yet to be seen or heard.
Over the past decade, I have been working alongside Hobart community arts worker Lorena Cabezas as an invited flamenco teacher. Over this time we have delivered together regular dance, music and singing classes, various outstanding sell out shows that promoted the Spanish culture in the various forms - traditional, contemporary and fusion. These shows added to the colour and vibrancy of the existing artistic landscape that Hobart, Tasmania hosts.

Once again I have been afforded the opportunity to present a unique work. This time, I will be drawing from the talents of Graffiti artists Luiza Monseratt from Brazil and Miguel Gonzalez from Venezuela. These prolific young artists reach the public through their large scale wall artworks that leave a deep reflection for social and moral reasoning; contributing to supporting a moral social thread. They will work with me to transcribe dance through a painted work - commissioned for the Salamanca MOVES Festival. This will be the first work of it's kind in the Asia Pacific region. The project is called "el mar adentro".

The work has been inspired by the movie of the same name famous Spanish director, Alejandro Amenábar. The movie itself focus's on the true story of Ramon Sampedro, a 25-year-old fisherman - played by award-winning actor Javier Bardem - who was left crippled during a diving accident and his long fight to win the right to end his life with dignity.
The work will bring together the cognitive elements of our freedom of and rights to equity in life, how without the freedom of choice our life renders only as a conceptual notion of living that is conditioned by the environment we are held in both our spiritual and mental states of being.

To assist me with creating this work, I am joined by a wonderful performing artistic team. Amongst these is one of my shining flamenco Sydney artists Brianne Lyall Montejo who is considered to be amongst Australia's few young and formidable flamenco artists today, Australia's sweetheart Spanish vocalist Rut Santamaria of Flamenco del Mar and Chilean vocalist/ folk guitarist Juan Carlos Matta.
The work will remain on the Salamanca Theatre wall as a gift from our artists to the community. It will enable engagement, deep thought and celebration for unity, diversity , liberty and community.
The performance work of " el mar adentro" is offered on Saturday, October 1st 11am and is free for the public to attend. It will be presented over the hour.
The Costs will be used for:
Air flights for 6 artists return, Van Hire, basic shared accommodation, art materials & sundries, freight of materials and staging.
We truly hope you will be able to assist us presenting our work.
Kind regards,
