On May 15, 2016 Steve went upstairs to do his daily workout. Those that know Steve knows he takes his health very seriously especially after having open heart surgery in 2006. Steve was being monitored for AFIB and was being careful to follow a normal and approved routine. This day was actually the 10th anniversary of his open heart surgery. A short time later his wife Barb found him on the floor.  That resulted In being airlifted to the University of Pennsylvania to handle a very serious Subarachnoid hemorrhage which was the result of an unusual aneurysm in the brain. Generally the treatment results in ICU care for up to two weeks, Steve was in ICU for 26 days! While in ICU Steve got a serious infection as well as what is known as ICU delirium.  Steve and Barb celebrated their 28th anniversary in the hospital and a few days later on the evening of June 13th Steve finally made it to Bryn Mawr rehab.

Steve has finally made it home and the next leg of his journey has begun. He has started with in home therapy with visits from a case manager nurse, physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. Right now Steve needs full supervision to insure he is safe at all times and making sure he remembers his limitation/restrictions.  After his initial evaluation it has been recommended that Steve participate in a day program at Bryn Mawr rehab. This will require that Steve be taken to the Malvern rehab center approximately 3 days a week for sessions that will take 4-6 hours to cover Steve's rehab, especially his cognitive needs.

Steve is also being treated for the AFIB as well as being monitored by the Neurosurgeon for Hydrocephalus which is inflammation of the ventricles in the brain. If the swelling does not improve Steve will need a shunt.

It is no surprise that insurance only covers so much, and with therapy that is expected to go on for months, there is a gap in what is covered vs what is needed. The family has a high deductible plan with the policy plan renewing 8/1, which means they start the deductible period all over again.  Insurance will also only cover a limited number of therapy visits. This along with disability pay at 60% is why I am posting for your help!

These are my parents and they are two of the most caring and hard working people I know. Asking for help is something that is not in their nature, so I am doing it for them.  No amount is too small and some have already helped along the way, and it is greatly appreciated! What was already received was used to cover expenses while in the hospital as well as getting things needed for rehab when Steve got home.  The biggest gift has been all of the prayers and support that the family has been shown, and we are blessed to be together and loved by so many.
