Hi, everyone.
In the weeks since I shared the news about my tumor, I have been deluged with so much kindness and love. I now struggle deciding exactly where to start in sharing my appreciation to all who have contributed in different ways. The kindness has been uplifting, humbling and inspiring. The love and concern have been overwhelming. I wish I knew the perfect words to express my gratitude to each and every one who donated financially or in other ways.
The surgery to remove what appears to be a craniopharyngioma is scheduled for tomorrow (July 8) at John Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Due to the size of the tumor, the procedure will be a bit more invasive than normal, and the incision will start roughly from the side of my head (behind my ear) to the top of my forehead. The entire procedure will take approximately six hours, give or take, and then I will be in intensive care for about 48 hours after that. Needless to say, it’s a very daunting thing to even imagine.
Since the surgery is being done at a hospital out of my network, my insurance will not cover even half of the medical costs. I chose John Hopkins because it is the best for this surgery type, but that also means I have to pay the great majority of the costs out of pocket. To date, $4,050 has been raised (out of $20,000). That has been very helpful, because every cent counts.
I thank each and everyone that has contributed. The love and concern has been overwhelming. I want to thank everyone that has already donated and contributed. Together we have already raised $4050.00 and I wish knew the perfect words to thank each and everyone that contributed to the 4050.00. After my surgery, I will personally reach out to everyone to thank you.
Though I am Irish as one can be, I unfortunately do not have a pot of gold within reach. Any contribution would be greatly, greatly appreciated. The warmth, kindness and love has been amazing and I am forever in gratitude for being lifted by all of you when I most need it.
I will try to have someone post updates on the surgery and my recovery process. This is a very stressful time for my family and me, but we are all optimistic and hopeful. Thank you again for whatever you can give.
