"Linnea Sturdy (1991 – 2021) passed away unexpectedly during the Easter weekend, April 2021. she a Graduate from The Masters Program in Ocean Food Systems at University of New England, Maine, USA, and was selected to be the first AquaVitae trans-Atlantic exchange student due to her tremendous academic potential and engagement to support development of sustainable food systems using low trophic species. In the midst of the pandemic, Linnea crossed the Atlantic in the beginning of February to join IVL Swedish Environmental Research Institute in Sweden and work on practical lab trials including the tunicate Ciona intestinalis, an emerging food and feed species. Despite initial setbacks in the project, she worked with diligence and enthusiasm and soon overcame all obstacles." Written by Barry Costa~Pierce and Asa Strand ( her advisors )

Please donate to help Linnea’s legacy in promoting science programs for girls. She was just starting her career as a women scientist when she passed away in Sweden at 29 years old. She was living her dream. I, her mother, know this to be true, as recently, I had found in her childhood writings, things she had wished for. “ to go to Sweden, and I also found a small fish-decorated box saying, Linnea Sturdy Marine Biologist. The box contained 19-year-old marine biology newspaper clippings.

I also noticed in her Facebook friend communications she believed to pay it forward.

Please contribute $5.00-$50.00 to send a teen to a science camp program . We have sent 8 girls to the Penikese island Science Camp off the coast of Woods Hole Ma. This year we will send a teen who has a love of science and who needs scholarship to attend Camp next summer. Please help build Linnea’s legacy and her Science Scholarship, I am so very grateful for this opportunity to send a girl to a science camp in Linnea’s name. I truly believe she ,like an angel, guides each camper we send ‍♀️
