The Serratos family needs our help. This young Wheeling, Illinois family has suffered many tragedies. Carlos and Stacie have been married for over 25 years. They have 2 children, Dolores, and Diego. Carlos was diagnosed with diabetes at the age of 23, which was being kept well under control until 2006. He was on his way to his paper route delivering newspapers when his car stalled and he was hit by a drunk driver. Surgery was done and rods were used to put Carlos‘s leg back together from the knee down to the toes. The next several years Carlos was constantly in and out of the hospital due to infections exacerbated by his diabetes. Finally doctors decided that part of his foot would need to be amputated in 2012 due to complications because of improper healing. In 2013 Carlos went into Kidney failure the cause is unknown but speculated that it was caused by the accident, medications, and the complications with the infections. Carlos has had umpteen surgeries/procedures, and infections since then. Two years ago Carlos was diagnosed with a rare condition that stems from peritoneal dialysis. It called encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis. On April 28th Carlos was taking to the ER for bleeding of the intestines. Upon arrival at the hospital it was discovered that Carlos’s hemoglobin was dangerously low at 6. Due to religious beliefs Carlos is unable to receive a blood transfusion. His hemoglobin has dropped to 4.1 and is now holding steady at 4.4. The future for Carlos at this point it still unknown. We pray that his hemoglobin continues to rise daily. The first day he arrived at the hospital the future was very bleak and hospice care was discussed. We just don’t know what can happen next. Let me tell you a bit about Stacie. I personally have never met someone so strong. She is the pillar of this family and has been a mom, a dad, a caregiver, a nurse, and much more. She has done it all with a smile on her face every day. She is the glue that has held this family together through all of this tragedy. She works very hard to keep them afloat while at the same time taking care of Carlos, her mom, and the kids. Stacie has a kind heart and loving soul. The reason this GFM is being started is because basically Stacie is working paycheck to paycheck, and with the immediate unknown circumstances, Stacie needs to stay by Carlos’s bedside until he is a little more stable. All the funds raised will be used by Stacie to pay all the household bills and any medical expenses if they arise in the future. I greatly appreciate that you have taken your time to read this. La familia Serratos necesita de nuestra ayuda. Esta familia joven de Wheeling, Illinois ha sufrido muchas tragedias. Carlos y Stacie han estado casados por más de 25 años. Tienen 2 hijos, Dolores y Diego. Carlos fue diagnosticado diabetico a los 23 años y lo mantenía bajo control hasta el 2006. Estaba en camino a su ruta de periódico cuando se le quedo su carro y de allí fue atropellado por una conductora intoxicada. Le hicieron cirugía y le pusieron fierros en su pierna para componer su pierna de la rodilla a los dedos de pie.... los siguientes años estuvo hospitalizado varias veces por complicaciones de la diabetes q hizo peor las infecciones. Al final los doctores decidieron que parte de su pie tenía que ser amputada en el 2012 aunque se había sanado la pierna. En el 2013 a Carlos le dio falla de riñón. La causa no esta muy claro pero piensan que por el accidente, medicamentos, y las complicaciones con infecciones. Carlos ha tenido varias cirugías y procedimientos e infecciones desde entonces. Hace 2 años fue diagnosticado con una condición rara que viene de la dialisis peritoneal. Se llama esclerosis peritoneal encapsulado (encapsulating peritoneal sclerosis) que puede ser fatal. El 28 de febrero Carlos tuvo que ir a la emergencia por un sangrado intestinal. Llegando al hospital descubrieron que su hemoglobina estaba peligrosamente baja a 6. Por sus creencias religiosas no puede recibir transfusión de sangre. Su hemoglobina bajó a 4.1 y ahora esta a 4.4 y se ha mantenido así por ahora. Aun no se sabe el futuro de Carlos. Oramos que su hemoglobina sigue aumentando diario. Desde el primer día que llegaron al hospital el futuro no estaba muy seguro y hablaron del cuidado de hospicio. No sabemos lo que puede pasar. Déjame contarles un poco de Stacie. Personalmente nunca había conocido a alguien tan fuerte. Es el pilar de la familia. Ha sido mama, papá, cuidadora, enfermera, y mucho mucho más. Lo ha hecho todo con una sonrisa todos los días. Es el pegamento que ha mantenido su familia juntos durante toda esta tragedia. Trabaja muy duro para mantenerlos y a la vez toma tiempo para cuidar de Carlos, su mamá, y sus hijos. Stacie tiene un buen corazón y una alma amorosa. La razón por la cual que se empieza esta GFM es porque básicamente Stacie esta trabajando de cheque a cheque y con las circunstancias Stacie tiene que estar al lado de Carlos hasta que este más estable. Todo lo que se recaude para ellos se va utilipara los gastos de la casa y cualquier gasto médico que pueden incurrir en el futuro. Agradezco inmensamente que han tomado el tiempo para leer esto.
