Caregiver

Hello friends & family,
As most of you know, we lost my grandmother, Sue just this last November (2020) and we’re devastated by the loss. After the funeral and memorial arrangements, our family tried to deal with the grief as best we could.
February 20th, 2021, my grandfather, Steve Coleman, suffered a fall. He split open the back of his head and, after rushing him to Renown, the doctors told us he was suffering from Hyponatremia. It is basically an extremely low sodium level. Dangerously low levels like this can cause confusion, hallucinations, blackouts that come out of nowhere (which explains the fall), and the worst- death. He stayed in the hospital for about a month and in this time, I (Faith Lee) moved back home to Reno to help my grandfather with his care. My mom (Jennifer Colucci) had also moved in to help with the care. The reality of how much care he needed was way beyond what we were expecting. When Steve had first come home from rehab and the hospital, he could not walk, stand up, take a shower, do anything by himself. He just wasn’t strong enough. That is where my mom comes in. She has been helping take care of him in every way you can imagine and with her help, my grandfather has gotten stronger and is able to do a lot on his own now.
With that being said, as a lot of you may know, my grandfather suffers from Parkinson’s disease and dementia. When he stands, he’s very wobbly. He doesn’t remember a lot most days. Some days are worse than others of course, but he’s a fighter and won’t be taken down so easily.
Back to my mom. She has been at home with him every day for the last 7 weeks since the first day he came home. She has severe asthma that keeps her out of work at the moment, and is currently on Family Leave because of it. In addition, my grandfather cannot be left alone, so my mom stays with him as his full-time caregiver. I work full time to help pay the bills I can, and so does my Uncle- who is currently is Mississippi finishing up a job.
As you can imagine, this causes a strain on our family financially as my mom is now a full-time caregiver. If you are able to donate anything at all, it would make such a difference for us. We are looking into some other options, but as of right now, there really isn’t any. Our family has been put through so much over the last few months, and money only stretches so far. Anything will help with us trying to get back on our feet.
Again, if you are able to help, thank you so much. We realize everyone has been affected by COVID in their own different ways and there’s strain on everyone, so if you are able to donate anything, we are more grateful than you know.

Please be safe,
The Coleman Family
